The International Fire and Cabin Safety Research Conference was co-hosted by the United States (US) Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), Transport Canada Civil Aviation (TCCA), the European Joint Aviation Authorities (JAA), and the Japanese Civil Aviation Bureau (JCAB); it is a follow-on to the International Conference on Cabin Safety Research, held in November 1995. At variance with the objective of the latter, which was primarily to present the Authorities "Proposed Cabin Safety Research Program (Transport Category Airplanes)" and obtain input from the aviation community on this Program, the objective of the present Conference was to apprise the aviation community of recent, on-going and planned research activities in the areas of fire and cabin safety.
The Conference comprised presentations and discussions in the areas of fire safety (including materials flammability, fuselage burnthrough, halon replacement, fuel tank explosion, and advanced materials), crash dynamics, evacuation, and operational issues.
Presentations, comments and input expressed at the Conference and in the present Proceedings are those of the participants and do not necessarily reflect positions by the organizations represented.
The present Proceedings were compiled by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Technical Center, Atlantic City International Airport, New Jersey, USA, and Galaxy Scientific Corporation, Egg Harbor Township, New Jersey, USA.
