The Task Group on Halon Options of the International Aircraft Systems Fire Protection has reviewed and assessed halon substitution technologies for each major area of on-board aircraft use: (1) engine nacelles, (2) handheld extinguishers, (3) cargo compartments, and (4) lavatory protection.

The Technical Report Options to the Use of Halons for Aircraft Fire Suppression Systems - 2002 Update prepared by this task group can be found here.

Since that report was published, new testing has been conducted evaluating halon replacement and alternative agents and new technologies. The FAA is currrently considering reconvening this task group to update the above 2002 technical report.
